What is E-Learning?

E-learning is the convergence of all electronic and virtual means of teaching and learning. Computer-based training, or CBT, is the approach where the training is done through the computer or another device. The main difference is that CBT is more focused on the self-paced side of learning. Asynchronous learning is the method where training modules and other paraphernalia are uploaded into a server, and the students can download and read them as they please. CBT is used for subjects that are more linear, rather than diverse. The third approach, computer-assisted collaborative learning, or CSCL, is a new technology. It is considered as one of the most important features that have linked together virtual and conventional learning. The teacher is able to track the progress of the students through servers while the students have restricted methods of manipulating the activities, according to the set rules.

Another approach is the technology-enhanced learning. Also known as TEL, it is known as a support for the rest of the approaches. It aims to develop better and more effective ways to help the students become more effective users, while guiding the teachers in becoming more efficient.
